The Capstone

Everything in the curriculum feeds one outcome. This page defines it, so you always know what you’re building toward and whether you’re on track.

The deliverable

A real, manufactured, saleable sneaker — designed by you, made by a factory you vetted, sold through a channel you built, to customers who paid full price — and the documented business around it.

Not a portfolio project. Not a rendering. A physical product in a box with a label on it.

The standard

You have completed the capstone when all of the following are true.

Product

Manufacturing

Business

Market

Learning

Grading yourself honestly

Level What it looks like
Incomplete The shoe doesn’t exist physically. Whatever else you did, the capstone isn’t met
Achieved The shoe exists, was made to your spec, and was sold to real customers. Everything else is refinement
Strong Achieved, plus: it fits well (return rate under 20%), it sold through more than half the run at full price, and the factory wants your next order
Exceptional Strong, plus: you have enough cash and demand to fund V2 without new capital, and the documented process is itself an asset people follow

“Achieved” is a genuine success at 18 with under $10k and no industry background. Most people who set out to do this never get a physical shoe made. Do not let the gap between Achieved and Exceptional obscure that.

The artifacts folder

Keep everything in one place, structured like this. It becomes your portfolio, your operating manual and your V2 starting point.

If you only do five things

Compressed, in case the six months goes sideways and you need the irreducible core:

  1. Cut three shoes in half and understand the layering (Module 2).
  2. Choose an open-mold sole and its matched last — this is what makes the budget work (Modules 3 and 5).
  3. Write a real tech pack (Module 9).
  4. Vet the factory properly and gate the final payment on inspection (Modules 12 and 15).
  5. Sell it with money upfront before you order bulk (Module 19).

Everything else in this curriculum makes those five go better. Those five are what actually produce a shoe.
